A wedding card can honor your friendship while welcoming the couple’s next chapter. An anniversary caption is usually about your own relationship. Keep those roles separate: a wedding wish should not become a long speech about how much you will miss having your friend to yourself.
A card for your best friend
I am so happy to celebrate with you both. Our friendship has given me years of laughter and honest conversation, and I look forward to seeing the life you build together. I hope it has room for ordinary kindness, new adventures and the sort of teamwork that makes a hard week easier. With so much love, [name].
If you do not know the partner well, you can still include them warmly without inventing memories together. “I am looking forward to getting to know you better” is more accurate than calling the couple a perfect match based on one meeting.
Short wedding wishes
- “Wishing you a life with room for laughter, patience and the plans you choose together.”
- “So glad to share this day with you. Here is to the ordinary days that follow it.”
- “May you keep making space to listen to each other, even when life gets noisy.”
Do not promise that marriage will solve problems or require the couple to have children. A wish should leave room for their own choices.
First anniversary
The first year can be described without pretending it was effortless. “One year of learning how we do this together.” “A year since the big day, and a growing collection of small ones.” “Still glad we chose each other—and the takeaway place around the corner.” Use a shared joke only if both people are comfortable making it public.
Second anniversary
“Two years in, and our favorite traditions are still the unplanned ones.” “Another year of asking what we need, making a plan, and occasionally ordering pizza instead.” “Two years of this life, with more room to be ourselves.” These captions say something about continuity rather than recycling a number into “best years ever.”
Third anniversary
“Three years, a few changed plans, and a good teammate.” “Three years of ordinary days I am glad to share.” “A little less surprised by each other, and still curious.” If the anniversary is difficult, you do not owe the internet a celebratory post. A private conversation may be the meaningful way to mark it.
Pair the caption with the photograph
A wedding photograph invites a memory of that day. A kitchen snapshot can tell a story about daily life. A travel picture can refer to how you plan together. Write the caption for the image you have, rather than forcing every image to support a grand statement about love.
An edit for privacy and accuracy
Agree before sharing relationship difficulties, private jokes or photographs of guests. Check the anniversary date. Do not label original lines as famous quotations, and do not borrow attributed poetry without checking its source and permissions. A short line in your own voice is enough to make the occasion personal.
